Unsere Kunstaktion #SnowdenArt läuft auf Hochtouren. Uns haben bereits weit über ein Dutzend Kunstwerke erreicht – allesamt thematisieren auf ihre jeweilige Art den Whistleblower Edward Snowden. Dank ihm wissen wir von den Machenschaften von NSA & Co.
Zahlreiche Künstlerinnen und Künstler haben uns angesprochen, dass der Einsendeschluss (ursprünglich 02.12.13) zu kurz bemessen war. Sie bräuchten mehr Zeit, um noch weiter an ihren begonnenen Werken zu arbeiten. Diesem Wunsch kommen wir gerne nach und verlängern daher den Einsendeschluss für die Kunstwerke auf Montag, 6. Januar 2014, 23.59 Uhr.
Im Anschluss daran werden wir Ende Januar zu einer Vernissage im Landtag NRW einladen, bei der wir euch die Kunstwerke präsentieren.
Ihr könnt also jetzt noch schnell die Zeit nutzen und euch auch an der Kunstaktion beteiligen: Bitte sendet uns eure Kunstwerke zum Thema Snowden und seinen Enthüllungen – dies kann ein Ölgemälde, eine Skulptur oder auch eine Collage sein. Digitalkunst ist uns natürlich auch willkommen. Lasst eurer Phantasie freien Lauf! Wer eine Vorlage mit dem Gesicht des Whistleblowers mit verarbeiten möchte, kann die Vorlage als jpg, png oder pdf hier herunterladen.

Introducing #SnowdenArt
My name is Lukas Lamla, on Twitter some of you may have already seen me communicating as @Maltis. I am a Member of the North-Rhine-Westphalian regional Parliament for the Pirate Party. Ever since the first bits of Information concerning the NSA-Surveillance scandal had surfaced due to Edward Snowden’s disclosures via the Guardian, I had hung up a picture of the whistleblower’s face in my office window.
For me it was important to show – whoever would look up to my window from the street – that Edward Snowden is important to me and my co-workers. Hanging up this black-and-white printed snowden mask was to me like having a bit of this brave individuals’s presence in my office.
In November, I was asked to take Snowden’s face down from my office window. The Landtag Administration believes that I was violating house rules prohibiting political propaganda in the windows or otherwise visibly displayed in the building. This was not completely plausible for me, since I had only hung up a mere picture, printed out in rough black-and-white. There were no written message accompanying the face in the window. This is what gave me the idea to do what comes natural to me: hack the rules of the house.
This is what spawned the idea to get Snowden back into the Landtag. With an art-hack. It’s called #SnowdenArt and started in mid-November when we started asking people to submit works of art for an exhibition in the rooms of our faction. We have already received a lot of great digital and physical pieces that will be curated and exhibited end of January. For this we are now also reaching out to the international community to submit works concerning Edward Snowden, especially his Face as a symbol for the importance of whistleblowing and the courage it takes to pull it through.
You can but are not required to use the Snowden face file. This is available as a jpg, png or as a pdf PDF.
Be creative, imaginative or even provocative. We are looking foreward to your input. The deadline is Monday January 6th at 23:59 hrs.
I will also be present at the 30C3 Congress in Hamburg, my advisor for cultural affairs, The Curator of #SnowdenArt, will also be present. We are be glad to receive your submissions personally, as long as they can be transported in a bag or by any other normal means.
